Caribbean School of Medical Sciences Jamaica (CSMSJ) has been registered, certified, and accredited by national and international medical school accrediting bodies and authorities. CSMSJ is registered/accredited/ listed/member with the following authorities:
The Ministry of Education, Jamaica
CSMSJ received University Degree-Granting Charter to establish and operate a medical and health care institution from the Government of Jamaica in June 2017. Graduates of CSMSJ are eligible to apply to practice medicine in Jamaica and the Caribbean upon successfully registering with the Medical Council of Jamaica.
University Council of Jamaica (UCJ)
The University Council of Jamaica has registered CSMSJ as a Tertiary Level Institute since 2018. The UCJ accredits CSMSJ Associate of Science in Natural & Applied Sciences (Pre-Med) from August 1, 2020 – July 30, 2024
Jamaica Tertiary Education Commission (JTEC)
CSMSJ was granted permission to operate as a tertiary institution in Jamaica in May 2015. The Jamaica Tertiary Education Commission fully registered CSMSJ in 2018.
Ministry of Health
CSMSJ has the 2nd Gazetted Anatomy Laboratory in Jamaica (Proclamations, Rules, and Regulations) Establishment of a school of Anatomy, Caribbean School of Medical Sciences Jamaica (CSMSJ) authorization, 2016 pursuant to the Anatomy Act, Vol. CXXXIX. This enables the teaching of medical sciences at CSMSJ, which necessitates the practice of anatomy.
It must be noted that CSMSJ is the second institution in Jamaica to have a Memorandum of between the Government of Jamaica – the Ministry of Health, signed on June 27, 2016. Our students have been rotating in Regional Health Authorities.
Caribbean Authority for Accreditation of Medicine and other Health Professions (CAAM-HP)
CSMSJ has applied to the Caribbean Authority for Accreditation of Medicine and other Health Professions (CAAM-HP) for provisional accreditation.
World Federation for Medical Education (WFME)
CSMSJ is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDMS).
The World Directory of Medical Schools has been developed through a partnership between the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) and the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER) in collaboration with the World Health Organization and the University of Copenhagen.
World Health Organization
World Health Organization (WHO)/AVICENNA Directories: CSMSJ is listed in the World Health Organization/AVICENNA Global Directories of Education Institutions for Health Professions. The AVICENNA Directories is a publicly accessible database of schools, colleges, and universities for the education of academic professions in health. For medical educational institutions, this replaces the World Directory of Medical Schools published by WHO since 1953
